New energy minister promises to ‘unleash revolution’ as cost of installation plummets to deliver 10% returns
Energy minister Amber Rudd plans to ‘unleash a new solar revolution’
Cost of installation has dropped to £5,000 – £8,000
Government incentives mean outlay can be made back in a few years.
Millions more households could be set to benefit from falling energy bills and generous payments after the new energy secretary vowed to ‘unleash a new solar revolution’ across Britain.
It wasn’t so long ago that solar was seen as niche – adopted by the rich, environmentally conscientious and tech geeks. But as the cost of panels has plummeted they are becoming an increasingly viable option for millions of households looking to save cash and benefit from generous government incentives.
Homeowners could currently get a 10 per cent a year return on the money they sink into solar panels.
